Nanotechnology or nanotechnology is a field of applied science and technology that covers a wide range of fields. The main issue is also the inhibition of matter or devices less than one micrometer in diameter, usually about 1 to 2 nanometers. In fact, nanotechnology is about understanding and applying new properties of materials and systems to such dimensions that they exhibit new physical effects - largely influenced by the predominance of quantum properties over classical properties.

Nanotechnology is a highly interdisciplinary science and is also concerned with disciplines such as material engineering, medicine, pharmacy and drug design, veterinary, biology, applied physics, semiconductor tools, supramolecular chemistry and even mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering.
Analysts believe that nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology (IT) are the three sciences that shape the Third Industrial Revolution. Nanotechnology can be as a continuation of current knowledge on the nano-scale or the planning of current knowledge on a newer and more modern basis.
Iran is seventh in the world in nanotechnology.
